AKRON, Ohio – Defending Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) champions John Carroll University (JCU) lead the 2019 OAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championships after day one of competition at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
The Blue Streaks have 228 points as a team followed by the University of Mount Union with 179 points. Ohio Northern University (157 points), Baldwin Wallace University (154) and Wilmington College (75) rounded out the standings after day one.
Both John Carroll relays won their events on Thursday. The Blue Streaks' team of Tori Vale, Gwyn Ledrick, Maddie Dolce and Olivia Talamo won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.71 while the JCU team of Felice Ferrante, Ledrick, Vale and Shelbi Shearer won the 400-yard medley relay with a mark of 3:56.64.
Ledrick also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.97, setting a new conference record.
The Baldwin Wallace trio of Bella Ratino, Allie Thorson and Olivia Jacob finished first, second and third respectively in the 500-yard freestyle.
Day two of competition begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Friday).
