AKRON, Ohio – Wilmington College freshman Evan Whitaker led the Fightin' Quakers performance at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Akron University on Saturday.
Whitaker finished the eight-kilometer course in 25:53.7, finishing in 81st place as one of the top freshmen from an NCAA Division III institution at the meet.
"Evan Whitaker was the third fastest DIII freshman in the race today," Head Coach Ron Combs said. "It's also won the fastest times for a freshman in our program's history."
As a team, Wilmington finished 22nd out of 39 teams as well as the 11th NCAA Division III team to cross the finish line.
"The guys got a little taste of success today," Combs said. "I hope they are hungry for more."
Wilmington will compete again on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Eagle Invitational in Warrenville, Illinois.
